Hello - Thanks for your interest in my editor. This editor is a
clone and super set of an early version of the IBM internal editor E (1987)
and hence is very similar to the enhanced editor of OS2 in its basic
command set. It does not however have the macro language that is part of
later versions of E. It is however a powerful and easy to use editor with
many features such as
-same basic command set as IBM E editor (1987) plus lots of extensions
-use the same editor under DOS, OS2, UNIX, VMS
-unlimited undo/redo of any operation
-does marked column editing
-keystroke macros which can be saved between sessions
-completely key configureable with automatic corresponding changes to
the help file
-edit multiple files and easily copy things between them
-intuitive operation, uses arrow keys to move cursor around
-ease of use combined with a full slate of features
-programming features include bracket match, quick function find
-changed lines can be quickly located and have a different appearance
(different colour in DOS version only)
-can edit binary files
This is not beta code. This editor has been in daily use by about a
dozen people for the last several years. Works well with ELM for mail.
There is also a graphical OpenWindows version available for Suns. Be sure
to follow the instructions in the documentation and set up the EDITORPATH
environment variable in your autoexec. editor.exe is a 16 bit executable
while e32.exe is a 32bit dos extended, dpmi compliant executable with
virtual memory capabilities. Some people however have had problems getting
e32 to work in conjuction with some disk caching programs.
Unix and VMS versions are also available as well as the source code
if desired. This is a shareware editor and $50 would be appreciated
particularly if you use the source code.
Good luck,
Tom Steiner steiner@sfu.ca
